Though his production table was set up just below Kygo’s, DJ, songwriter, and producer Gryffin came on before with a set whose visuals - lights, flames, and videos - matched the headliner and whose music sent the packed audience to equal heights. One piece began with Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” with vocals from her recording pumped-up in the bottom and fading into a throbbing trail based on its beat. Kygo played many of his hits, presenting an interesting relationship with their sources, his recordings, and his performance Friday night. He spiced-up his delivery with a couple live vocalists, most notably Chelsea Cutler (800 million+ streams), who delivered her own unimpressive set with minimal accompaniment earlier in the afternoon. Kygo reproduced most of his hits by himself, from behind a large platform of turntables and digital effects. Thrusting arms in the air, they appeared to be reaching for a far higher vantage point than the hot-air balloon was able to muster. The producer and DJ closed his set proper with the tune, whose lyrics set the spiritual bar high for the gleeful crowd.
